2025 sipdown no. 56

This was a sample in our advent order. The lychee is a great addition and comes through clearly. A nice twist on an EG.

AC Perch 2025 Advent Day 13: Breakfast Tea

This is a basic breakfast tea, little astringency and relatively smooth. I wasn’t in the mood to add milk, but I’m sure it would’ve been nice.

AC Perch 2025 Advent Day 12: Cranberry

The dry smell was juicy cranberry. The steeped smell was a bit diminished and the flavour was quite subtle. There were hints of cranberry against a light-medium bodied smooth black base. Really lovely overall and one we would consider for the cupboard.

Lex gave this one an A.

Thanks for sharing Cameron!

This one started out nicely enough, subtle maltiness and subtle floralness. As it cooled, a slight smoky flavour came forword and the remainder of the cup was dumped.

2025 sipdown no. 54

This has a dessert-like flavour component, though it’s fairly non-descriptive. Sadly, peach is nowhere to be found. It’s nice enough, but not was I was hoping for. The resteep leaves cold brewed tasted much the same as the hot version.

AC Perch 2025 Advent Day 11: Green Yunnan

The recommended steep time was 4 minutes, but we steeped this at 2 minutes (after the catastrophe from yesterday). This steeps a very pale green, almost clear. The scent is pleasantly vegetal. The taste is very smooth and light-bodied. It has a floral, almost jasmine quality at the front of the sip and ends on a nicely bitter-vegetal note.

Lex gave this a B.

AC Perch 2025 Advent Day 10: Temple Tea

This called for a 4-7 minute steep time. I steeped this for 4 minutes and it was a mistake. The bitterness was overwhelming and little of the fruit taste could be enjoyed. Truly a shame, because the dry leaf scent was fruity and we’ve enjoyed this in the past.

AC Perch 2025 Advent Day 9: Orange Black

The smell of the dry leaf was Christmas-like, but the taste wasn’t orange at all. I was hoping for a fresh orange flavour against the black base, but very little, if any, orange came through and the base wasn’t all that great either.

Tante T (another Danish company) also has an Orange Black tea that’s better, in my opinion.

The pu’erh and chocolate creates a smell that bothers me (exactly the same as TG’s Orange Chocolate and Strawberry Dipped Chocolate), though it does diminish a bit as the tea cools. Something about this blend is a bit cloying and I really only taste a chocolate flavour. The chocolate flavour is nice, with lots of depth. I do miss the cranberry, currants, and raspberries that are meant to be here.

AC Perch 2025 Advent Day 8: Top Sikkim

Smooth, light-medium bodied, with some floral sweetness at the end of the sip. Another Darjeeling-esque tea. Though the Nilgiri Frost had more sweetness, and also more bitterness to the floral aspects. This one is smoother overall with less robust flavour, but it works nicely.

Lex mentioned she noticed astringency, but generally enjoyed this tea. She gave this a B.

Profile

Bio

I love black and oolong (unroasted/green and red preferable to roasted) teas, followed by green or red rooibos, herbals, whites, and subtly flavoured greens.

Likes:
Blackcurrant, raspberry, strawberry, peach, apricot, rhubarb, passionfruit, redcurrant, fig, and most fruits in general, maple, creaminess, hay, biscuit, lavender, and cacao/dark chocolate.

I enjoy bergamot when paired with flavours that mellow it.

Dislikes:
Any smokiness at all, stevia, too much blackberry leaf, rose, jasmine, ginger (except in chai), cinnamon-heavy teas, anything cloying or fake/candy-like.

I’m vegan and have a potato allergy, so I avoid animal products in tea, along with sprinkles as these often have potato starch (I’ll happily pick them out of blends).
