The raspberry here is quite nice, close to subtle, but perhaps one level up from that. I do wish it had a bit more raspberry. The base supports the flavour well and doesn’t overtake. Thanks Cameron for another great single fruit-black tea!

This one has a first flush Darjeeling scent, which I enjoy. The flavour is also very Darjeeling-y, with hay and floral notes. As the tea cools, there’s an edge of astringency that I don’t love. Thanks Cameron!

There’s plenty of cocoa powder here and it adds a nice cocoa bitterness to the taste. The spices are evenly balanced and come through clearly. I forgot about 2/3 of this cup while working and did prefer it hotter, but still tasty cooled. Thanks for sharing Cameron!

Difficult to get past the Ceylon base here, quite metallic.

Michelle

I thought the same for the Bakeapple flavor.

As did I!

This one is definitely milky, bordering on a bit too much (for me). Perhaps it’s the 2024 harvest. It’s a lovely oolong overall and I’ll have to order the 2025 harvest to see the differences.

I regularly got 3-4 steeps, Western style.

The dry and steeped smell is the same, a musky dark chocolate. The taste comes through on the end of the sip, but chocolate teas often leave me wanting more (more like hot chocolate haha). Lex loved this one. I appreciate the unique ingredients, but wouldn’t order more than a sample size.

The steeped scent of this is heavily clove. The taste is clove at the front with peppercorn on the back. The green tea base is smooth.

Thanks Cameron!

This is definitely lavender with a softness of vanilla, without much actual vanilla flavour. The chai spices are mostly drowned out by the lavender, but I don’t mind.

Thanks for sharing Cameron!

This one has so much lavender ah ha!

Courtney

It really did!

Lavender is such a strange flavor — it goes well in pastries and teas, but not so good in my omelette.

The reviews of this tea are amazing and I so wanted to feel the same way, but sadly didn’t find this tea as incredible as others. I’m not a huge fan of Ruby 18, so perhaps that’s why? The tea is quite smooth with some honey sweetness. The resteep isn’t anything to write home about and I found it introduced a light astringency that wasn’t in the initial steep.

@Courtney, I apologize if my tea notes on Brandy Oolong are partly responsible for your disappointment. For what it’s worth, I have found lot-to-lot variations in this product not only with Tealyra, but also other vendors. And I was similarly underwhelmed by Adagio—Masters’ ersion earlier this week. https://steepster.com/teas/adagio-teas/108904-formosa-ruby-18-black

Thanks Cameron!

I didn’t take any notes/don’t remember anything special because it didn’t wow me, but a nice enough cuppa.

Profile

Bio

I love black and oolong (unroasted/green and red preferable to roasted) teas, followed by green or red rooibos, herbals, whites, and subtly flavoured greens.

Likes:
Raspberry, strawberry, peach, apricot, rhubarb, passionfruit, blackcurrant, redcurrant, fig, and most fruits in general, maple, creaminess, hay, biscuit, lavender, and cacao/dark chocolate.

I enjoy bergamot when paired with flavours that mellow it.

Dislikes:
Any smokiness at all, stevia, too much blackberry leaf, rose, jasmine, ginger (except in chai), cinnamon-heavy teas, anything cloying or fake/candy-like.

I’m vegan and have an allergy to potatoes, so I avoid any animal products in tea, along with sprinkles as these often have potato starch (I’ll happily pick them out of blends).
