Bai Hao Yin Zhen (Organic)

I had about 7 grams of this left between two sample packets I got from DT so I decided to combine them both in a cup. My first time trying it.

DT said on the packet to steep this in 94C water but since this is a white tea I just couldn’t. I steeped at 79C for 2 minutes.

The resulting liquid was golden in color and fragrant, the scent reminding me of honey like it should. The taste was ok but i wasn’t wowed. I mean, it’s a good tea but I’ve had better…. You can blame it on Teavivre’s organic silver needle.

Well, I gave this one another chance! and I think I’ve finally met a white tea I don’t like. I was afraid this day would come…
Unless it’s simply that the leaves were scorched (quite possible), then this tea really is not great at all. In fact, this is how I imagine a no name, grade C, or even D, BAGGED white tea would taste
Boring. Rough. Bitter. None of these are words I associate with good tea!

I really enjoyed this one. A nice, calming tea. Very light overall.

So I’ve never really had just a straight, white tea before! I’ve had a few different flavoured varieties but never just the tea on its own. I probably never would have tried this tea if left to my own devices, but last night I was invited to a little seminar at the David’s Tea near my house. We tasted different teas, and talked about the benefits of tea and how different kinds are processed and blended. I really enjoyed it!

And I really enjoyed this tea! It has a sweet grassy taste—but it isn’t a bad thing! If you’ve ever had one of Jelly Belly’s Bertie Botts grass flavoured beans, you’ll know what I mean when I say it isn’t a bad taste. It reminds me a bit of honeysuckle, or clover and doesn’t need sweetener at all to be incredibly pleasant to drink!

For real. I left David’s Tea with a tin of it immediately after the tasting!

This came as a sample in my last order. It’s not one of my favorite white teas that I’ve tried, that said it’s drinkable but meh. It’s a little more on the hay side than I prefer, and not really in a good way. Perhaps I’m just not in the mood for it right now…

This is one of the several kinds of tea Lovelylotus shipped to me in our tea swap. I steeped the leaves for roughly 4 minutes and they brewed a nice golden cup. This has a fresh, sweet grassy flavor accompanied by mild floral notes and a clean finish. Delicate and non-astrigent, this is an excellent choice in terms of straight white tea. While I prefer my black or green teas mostly, I could see myself trying another cup of this here or there, just to keep things interesting.

I’m always hesitant when I drink straight whites and greens. I don’t enjoy grassy flavours, or ones that just taste . . . planty . . . at all. Thankfully this tea didn’t have that. It is very light, almost too light even more me. I had a few sips of it without adding anything and found it had a slight underhint of something. I hesitate to say vanilla but there was definitely something nice sneaking in. Wondering if some sugar would highlight it so I could pinpoint what I was tasting I added a halfspoon of sugar. And wow, suddenly the tea was almost tasteless.

I don’t dislike this tea, but it isn’t my favourite white so I don’t think I’ll be purchasing it again. It isn’t a bad tea, it just isn’t memorable or something I see myself ever having a craving for.

This tea is spectacular. The golden color and the lighten taste.
Almost heaven.

It has some “spicy” aftertaste and some kind of vanilla sweetness. It’s hard to describe, but this tea have a really complex aroma.

i needed something zen to get me through my afternoon and this is exactly what i needed.

This tea smelled amazing…with a taste that flat out let down. Stale hay, with maybe a hint of stone fruit.

It looked beautiful, and smelled great…the taste just wasn’t there.
