407 Tasting Notes

At the beginning of June, I went on a drive to Ohio Tea Co to purchase some samples of their new teas. I know that they offer free shipping on tea, however, I prefer to smell and look at the tea tins they have out for customers to determine whether they’d enjoy it. I wanted to talk with the owner(s), but they were out for the day, and the workers there weren’t very sociable that day. Lol.
Orange Grove Vanilla is the first tea of the bunch that I finished! The details online sounded like this could be a winner, and thankfully I only grabbed 2oz, instead of 4oz.
Aroma: Orange juice & orange soda – very citrusy
Tasting Notes: Zero vanilla notes despite the vanilla placed in the name. There is a citrus bite coated with a touch of cranberry (must be the apple?). Not one of my favorites from OTC, however, it’s not terrible. 65/100

My rating of this tea is from 4 years ago. This current review does not reflect or alter my previous thoughts due to the age of the tea at the time of sipping down.
I finally sipped down the huge bag of this in June! From my last review, I must’ve purchased it 4 years ago…Yikes. I think that this tea held up despite its age and while the peppermint patty vibes dwindled, the material held up regardless of the age! Based on this last session, I’d say that the 80/100 is valid even after it sat in my tea stash for 4 years.

Aroma: Honey, cough drops, & hibiscus
Cold brewed.
Tasting Notes: I sipped this down with a friend, and I noted, “Tastes like beets.” Their note, “Reminds me of pickled eggs – vinegar, beets, sour, & salty.” 45/100

Another cold brewed tea…This time, it worked!
Notes: The apple cuts the intensity of the hibiscus, so it’s not as tart as I would’ve expected it to be based on the dry material aroma and listed ingredients. Well rounded, slightly sweet, and great for a warm day. 71/100.

I was surprised when I discovered that Walmart sold 1-2 Tiesta Teas at our local store! I didn’t know that they had a hand in the tea game. Lol. When I first got into tea, I remembered discovering Tiesta Tea and enjoying anything I had from their catalogue. Since the Blueberry Wild Child was a favorite upon my first time trying their teas, I had to try this once again, a few years after my first experience with their brand.
I’ll note that my taste for hibiscus has changed quite a lot during my tea venture; I tolerate the taste less since it typically takes over any blend when it’s added. However, this is one of the few times when it works whenever you add to ice or cold brew. I made the last of this as a cold brewed tea last week and it dulled the hibiscus to the point it was greatly reduced to a mellow tartness which tasted more like blueberry and less like hibiscus. Lol. Drinking this one hot is not my style, and I’m certain that Tiesta Tea would recommend it to be chilled rather than served warm. Who’s to say? I prefer this one iced versus hot.

For the past few weeks, I went on a sun tea kick when the weather was cooperating. I only had 25-ish grams of this leftover and felt that ½ gallon jar was plenty to brew the remaining leaf in. I allowed the tea to sit from 06:00-20:00ish on Thursday, so that I could sip the tea throughout the work shift on Friday. I know that this was a perfect tea gongfu’d but wasn’t sure how it’d turn out sun brewed.
I noted, “Non-alcoholic whiskey, malt, & smooth. No texture to the tea. Could have more leaf next time, but this works well enough.”I acquired a sample of this in last month’s Tea Share club. I tossed the sample in a box with a few other teas to work on sipping down and forgot about it until yesterday. I decided that I wanted chai and there was plenty of the sample for a 16 OZ mug.
Aroma: Cardamom, clove, & ginger are strong with this one. No rose.
Taste: Nice bold back tea base & the cardamon really hits the palate. I wish there was more rose flavor – I am not tasting any rose – which would up the rating if there was more of the expected rose note.
