From Rakkasan Tea Company

1.7 oz. (20 cups) or 6 oz. (70 cups)

Coming from Sri Lanka’s Sinharaja Rain Forest region, Sinharaja Black is a hand-picked, hand-rolled and superior black tea made of twiggy, twisted leaves that give way to a shimmering copper golden liquor. Floral notes mixed with rice paddy hay provide a distinct base. A finale of bergamot orange and chocolate gives way to bee’s honey, making up a colorful bouquet of delicate and refined flavors.

Comprised of two leaves and a bud, Sinharaja Black is slow withered by the natural winds of the rainforest, hand rolled by artisan teamakers, oxidized, dried and packed within a day of plucking, to maintain freshness and potency. A truly amazing Ceylon black tea!

Brewing instructions
Amount: 2 grams of loose tea per cup of water (a pinch)
Temperature: 212 ̊ (A full, rolling boil)
Steep time: 3 – 3.5 minutes

About Our Sri Lankan Tea

Formerly called Ceylon, the island of Sri Lanka has produced some of the finest tea in the world for the last 150 years. While the tea industry survived Sri Lanka’s 30-year-long civil war intact, it has also bolstered the entire country’s continued economic recovery since the war’s end in 2009

For the November MN Tea Society Meeting, I decided to do an educational piece on black tea. I used Rakkasan Amba Thieves and Rakkasan Breakfast Black to help them see that not all tea bag tea is on equal footing. Half guessed right and half guessed wrong. This was one of the teas in the sampler I bought for the class. It is very enjoyable. Great for any morning.

Dry Leaf: Tightly twisted. Long. Curling. Some golden fuzz.
Flavor: Woody. Acorn squash. Some tomatoes. Earthy. A bit of resin.
