Rooibos (“red tea”) is harvested from shrubs grown in the high elevations of the cape regions of South Africa. Rooibos has a full-bodied, rounded character, a slight sweetness, and blends well with green tea, black tea, other herbs and spices. Enjoy this red tea based chai with just the right hint of sweetness and spices. Delicious with milk and sweetener. High in vitamins, minerals and antioxidants, Rooibos is well-known for its numerous health benefits and calming effects. And it’s completely caffeine-free!
Generally, when it comes to teas and tisanes, I avoid tea bags. But when they’re sent to you for free, you don’t complain. They’ve always been kind to me. Recently, they sent donations for our MN Tea Society to review. We have one left to go before we’ve tried all 8 boxes. Truly, it was a kind donation.
Dry Bag: Lots of rooibos dust on the inner part of the packet. Kind of kicks you in the face with spice
Wet Leaf: Well… not quite leaf, but close. It’s a pleasant aroma. Slightly spicy.
Flavor: Light. It’s good, but nothing quite like one would expect after smelling the dry leaf.
5-7 Minutes is not quite enough. At about 15 mins now, and the flavors are finally getting to the point that it’s not just ‘rooibos with spices flavored water’.

This one is just okay. I think I’ve had better rooibos and better chai before, though it’s not bad. Probably not something I would like in a latte as much as other chai if I’m being honest.

Backlog:
This is just alright. Kind of ‘meh’ … you know? Boring. And chai blends shouldn’t be boring. I’ve tasted better rooibos chai blends. The body seems thin as does the flavor. I think that might have something to do with the fact that the only spices listed in the ingredients is clove and cinnamon. Kind of a boring chai blend, really. If I’m going to have a rooibos chai blend, I want some zesty spices to make up for the fact that I’m drinking rooibos.
Ah well, I guess they can’t all float my boat. It’s tasty, I guess, but it’s just … kind of ‘meh.’
